Today we’re talking about Hikikomori Syndrome, a rare group of symptoms of isolation and loneliness.

If a person voluntarily isolates himself at home and does not engage in any kind of professional, academic or social activity for at least six months, he may suffer from hikikomori syndrome .

What is hikikomori syndrome?

The term hikikomori was coined by psychiatrist Tamaki Saito in 2000 and means withdrawal and isolation of oneself . It is defined as a voluntary form of social isolation or self-isolation, due to personal and social factors. It particularly affects young adolescents who are already sensitive, shy, introverted, have few friends and who view the outside world as something violent that is constantly attacking them.
